Women’s shelters and women’s counselling centres

Our women’s shelters and women’s counselling centres offer protection, advice, support and help if you are experiencing physical, psychological and/or sexual violence or stalking. Our staff are bound by confidentiality and work according to the principles of anonymity, impartiality and empowerment for self-help.

Women’s shelters – your safe haven

Women’s shelters are safe houses where women and mothers with children can stay for a short or long time, and where they can receive help and counselling. The shelters and counselling centres are staffed by social workers. A 24-hour on-call service is available 365 days a year.

There are a total of 19 women’s shelters in Saxony-Anhalt, currently providing 117 places for women. In addition, the shelters in Ballenstedt, Magdeburg, Wolmirstedt and Zeitz are equipped to accommodate women with certain physical disabilities.

Our services include:

psychosocial and social-pedagogical counselling (in individual and group settings)
counselling, support and referral under the Domestic Violence Protection Act
counselling after a stay at a women’s shelter to help with the return to a violence-free and self-determined life.

Women’s counselling centres

Are you in distress, but do not need a shelter? Use the outpatient women’s counselling centres for advice, support and help. Professional helpers and family support persons of victims can also receive information and counselling here. Magdeburg also has a counselling centre for women and girls with disabilities who experience domestic violence.
